Thoughts Become Things

I saw this quote from The Secret Affirmations app: “You cannot “catch” anything unless you think you can, and thinking you can is inviting it to you with your thought. You are also inviting illness if you are listening to people talking about their illness. As you listen, you are giving all your thought and focus to illness, and when you give all of your thought to something, you are asking for it.”

This is harsh to say people are “asking for” things like cancer. It’s interesting though because I believe 100% that thoughts become things and there’s a lot to be said for having a positive mindset for healing. And I fully believe negative thoughts can bring on negative things.

Example: I had no family history of anything and two healthy kids. I was working in genetics when I became pregnant with Sarah. Early on, after a long phone call with a particularly demanding, overbearing, needy parent, I made the off-hand remark that hopefully I wasn’t jinxing this pregnancy working in genetics because some of these parents… I couldn’t imagine living their lives. The rest is history. And that’s only one example of many similar… predictions? Manifestations?

Are things like breast cancer and autism more prevalent now because of all of the awareness campaigns and attention they’re given or are we more aware of these things because they’re more prevalent? If the former is true, social media makes a perfect petri dish for spreading more than just awareness. Makes you wonder how many other things increase simply because we give them attention, like giving a child with bad behavior attention. School shootings, police shootings, standoffs.

Health issues though. Imagine social media being used to get people to share “awareness” about disease X. They read, think, write, worry about it, maybe help raise money to “fight” it, and eventually get it or have a loved one get it. There’s an endless cycle of more and more people who need pharmaceutical X to maybe survive. (And where does all the raised money go? The nonprofit CEO? Pamphlets? The development of drugs companies then turn around and charge people way too much for? It would be interesting to know if Facebook and other similar entities are linked somehow to the so-called nonprofits and the pharmaceutical companies. It’s conspiracy theory, I know.

Related to all of this, all of those memes that get passed around –I never looked at the origin of the word before. From wiki:
Memetics
“The meme, analogous to a gene, was conceived as a “unit of culture” (an idea, belief, pattern of behaviour, etc.) which is “hosted” in the minds of one or more individuals, and which can reproduce itself, thereby jumping from mind to mind. Thus what would otherwise be regarded as one individual influencing another to adopt a belief is seen as an idea-replicator reproducing itself in a new host.”

The really scary part if you think about it :

“Memetics is also notable for sidestepping the traditional concern with the truth of ideas and beliefs. Instead, it is interested in their success.”

Scary all of the false information passed around the world as truth by Facebook idiots.
