Say What You Need to Say

I had been having a not so great week – month – season – year (I’ve only been there a year this October 1st so…) but it got better after just one talk. And I should’ve known how to make it better, because I’ve done this all before many times in other situations. It just takes me a while to get to my breaking point.

Note to self (and anyone else): SAY what you want/need. Tell the person who can help you – whether that’s yourself or someone else – BEFORE you reach your breaking point and make a drastic decision.

I’ve been at my job almost a year and things weren’t working out for me and I needed change. I dreaded going in. I hated everything about it. For months, I had been on the verge of quitting and rationalizing staying just a bit longer.

I would rant to anyone who would listen and sympathize or commiserate with me. But ranting to people who had no way to help my situation didn’t facilitate change.

Ultimately, telling the right person what I want in my job and how I think I could be the most help to them, helped me get what I want.

My hours and some of my duties are changing soon. All I needed to do was stop complaining to the wrong people and start telling the right people (myself and my boss) what I want.

Whether it’s yourself you’re talking to or someone else who has some power over your situation (in your job, relationship, life, whatever), DON’T ASK for what you want/need (or ask for permission). TELL them (your self, boss, partner) what you want/need.

If you don’t get the response you’re looking for, then it’s your decision to stay where you are (and make peace with it or keep hating your life) or go after what you want elsewhere even if you have to give something else up. Ultimately, it’s up to you to make your life the way you want it.

It’s up to me to make my life the way I want it. I put it out to the universe and usually things shift around to make room for me. Things always work out for me eventually.
