Jaws of winter grip my bones,
Icy teeth gnash into flesh,
Frigid hands slap my cheeks,
Bluster’s bellows shake the pane
Of Summer’s window.
I cup my eyes in weathered vain
To glass, my breath a foggy blast
Condenses to a frosty glaze,
Nails and knuckles scrape away
At Summer’s window.
Porthole cleared to cloudy smudge,
I peer with envy; warmer months
Mingle with the blur of autumn,
Nod and wink with knowing nudge,
Through Summer’s window.
